Mock Newbery

Each January Rhode Island librarians gather to select a "mock" version of the Newbery award. The Newbery Medal is awarded annually to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children published in the United States during the preceding year.

Mock Newbery 2018

On January 17, 2018 a group of 12 children's and school librarians selected the following winner and honor books:

Mock Newbery Medal:

Her Right Foot by Dave Eggers

Mock Newbery Honor Books:

The winning books were selected from the final list examined and discussed by a group of children's and school librarians following the criteria for the real Newbery committee.

Three Newbery Honor Books were also named: Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut, written by Derrick Barnes, illustrated by Gordon C.
