Library Card for State Employees

State Employees can obtain a free Ocean State Libraries card through the Office of Library and Information Services (OLIS). To do so, please complete the application form and submit it at olis.lori@olis.ri.gov or stop by OLIS on the 2nd floor at the Department of Administration, 1 Capitol Hill, Providence, RI 02908. Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

If you are a resident of Rhode Island, we strongly suggest applying for a library card at your local public library. You may still use OLIS to pick up and return materials.

Resources

  • AskRI databases: AskRI serves as the online portal to the Statewide Reference Resource Center, which is managed by Providence Public Library and state-funded via OLIS. Through AskRI, all Rhode Island residents and libraries can access online resources and virtual reference services.
  • Ocean State Libraries Catalog: Search the catalog for books and other resources.
  • RI Learning CenterOLIS Quarterly Book Club: As part of the DOA Lunch and Learn series, OLIS offers a quarterly Book Club meeting for RI State Employees. Registration for each session is available in the RI Learning Center, and participants can attend as many sessions as interest them. OLIS receives copies of each title in various formats (as available through the Ocean State Libraries catalog) of the selected title and begins distributing them to participants roughly one month before the discussion. Once enrolled for a discussion in the Learning Center, employees should email Emily Goodman (emily.goodman@olis.ri.gov) to arrange to borrow a copy.
