On August 18, 42 All-Star Readers took to the field at McCoy Stadium to celebrate the grand finale to the 2015 Summer Reading Program, “Every Hero Has a Story." Armed with their favorite book of the summer, the All-Star Readers represented their respective libraries with wonderfully creative signs ranging from a giant book to superhero shields emblazoned with their library’s name. One reader from Warwick used the finale as an opportunity to honor his uncle, who will soon be deployed to Afghanistan, by selecting the book How to Bake an American Pie as his favorite summer read. Every hero does indeed have a story! Rhode Island children’s librarians, library staff, and volunteers were also in attendance to celebrate their readers and the conclusion of summer reading.
Once the All-Star Readers paraded on to the field Paws, the PawSox mascot, offered his hat for the big raffle drawing. All names were put into the hat and Alexzander Michaud from the Jesse M. Smith Memorial Library in Burrillville was chosen as the 2015 grand prize winner. Alexzander and his family will receive airfare vouchers for four people, four nights hotel accommodations, and four five-day passes to Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, thanks to the generous sponsors of the final event of the Summer Reading Program: Citizens Bank, the Pawtucket Red Sox, and Pepsi.
Congratulations to Alexzander and the 2015 All-Star Reader Team!
