Kids Reading Across Rhode Island, Rhode Island's One Book, One State community read program for kids, is kicking off its 8th year! This program, offered in partnership with the Rhode Island Center for the Book at the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities, encourages students across the state in grades 4 through 6 to read the same book, and engage in community discussions and programs. This year’s selection is Save Me a Seat by author Sarah Weeks and Gita Varadarajan.
Sarak Weeks and Gita Varadarajan will speak and sign books throughout the afternoon and a free signed copy of Save me a Seat will be given out (one per family) while supplies last.
Sarah Weeks has been writing children's books and songs for the past twenty years. She is a graduate of Hampshire College and NYU and recently became an adjunct faculty member in the prestigious Writing Program at the New School University, in New York City.
Gita Varadarajan was born and raised in India. She has worked with children all over the world, and now teaches second grade in Princeton, N.J. Save Me a Seat, written with
Sarah Weeks, is her first novel.
