U.S. Census Data

Monday, November 09, 2009
10:30 a.m. - 12:30 a.m.
East Greenwich Free Library

Presenter(s)/Discussion Leader(s): Arthur Bakis, Information Services Specialist, Boston Regional Census Center, US Census Bureau

Census 2010 is fast approaching! Come learn about the reengineered census and how to access the most up to date data for the Nation, the state of Rhode Island, counties, communities and other geographic areas. Information Services Specialist, Arthur Bakis, will navigate attendees through the U.S. Census Bureau’s free online data access tool – the American Factfinder – and show them how to create their own tables using statistics from the decennial census and the American Community Survey (ACS). The ACS allows for detailed social, economic and housing data to be released on an annual basis rather than every ten years. Currently, you can access 2007 ACS data for areas with a population of 20,000 or more. Arthur will show the attendees the many different types of data tables available from a simple fact sheet to a custom detailed table. Learning how to access the most up to date statistics for a city or town is an important tool in keeping track of a communities’ trends and needs.
