Public Library Standards: Public Relations

Rhode Islanders are aware of library services, programs, and facilities.

  1. The library's long-range plan includes public relations goals, objectives, and strategies to ensure continuous communication with the library's various audiences. The plan incorporates a range of publicity techniques such as:
    1. library newsletter
    2. general information brochure
    3. newspaper articles or columns
    4. annual report available to the public
    5. TV and/or radio exposure
    6. posters, flyers, bookmarks
    7. presentations to community groups
    8. exhibits, displays, bulletin boards
    9. web page
    10. electronic bulletin boards
    11. videocassette
    12. participation in community events, fairs, parades
    13. advertising items
    14. direct mail promotions

  1. The library develops and implements specific strategies to inform people with disabilities, people with a first language other than English, adult new readers, and non-users of its materials, programs, and services.
