Library of Rhode Island Standards
Public libraries receiving an appropriation (GIA) from the state of Rhode Island must submit a disaster preparedness plan which states the plan of action to be taken in the event of a natural or human made disaster (RIGL 29-6-3(e)). The plan shall be in accordance with a suggested plan published by OLIS.
The Disaster Readiness, Response and Recovery Manual for Rhode Island libraries can be downloaded in its entirety or by individual sections. The Disaster Manual is in PDF format and requires the free Adobe Acrobat reader; forms are available as PDF and Word files. Please note that Chapter 11 (Resources) is not available at this time.
Public libraries must submit an electronic version of their disaster plan to the Chief Library Officer by July 1, 2008.
How to send a Disaster Plan as a single PDF file:
Save a Word version of your Disaster Plan as a master to modify from year to year. Whenever you need a final version for submission to OLIS or for Board members, etc. create a pdf version.
When sending a PDF version to OLIS, please send a single file. Versions of Adobe Acrobat Writer differ, so please follow the directions for inserting pages into an existing document or combining files into a single PDF. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Writer, there are free PDF-making tools available online.
