The Office of Library and Information Services is pleased to announce its co-sponsorship of the Futures Conference, in partnership with nine other state libraries, the Council of State Libraries in the Northeast (COSLINE) and LibraryLinkNJ. This unique conference will consider what the future might look like and what the role of libraries might be in that future. It will include presentations by futurists both within and outside the library profession and group discussions with library colleagues from around the Northeast, where you will engage in hands-on training in forecasting the future. Rhode Island librarians can attend the conference at a discounted rate through OLIS' sponsorship of the event; in addition, OLIS is offering a limited number of scholarships to Rhode Island librarians and library staff to attend the event.
What does the future of libraries look like? How will libraries be impacted by technology? How will they communicate and what tools will be available to help libraries adapt in order to best suit their customers’ needs?
Join librarians from across the country in beginning a discussion on how libraries need to change in order to thrive in the next decade. We imagine a morphing of imagination, inspiration, and information that will transform the way libraries look at the future. Hear speakers share their vision, engage in small group discussions and be a part of a conference where everyone walks away with a plan to navigate the future through newly envisioned possibilities.
The conference registration fee is $395. However, Sponsoring Partner states, including Rhode Island, are offering a limited number of registrations for $195. Rhode Island library staff interested in attending the conference may obtain the RI access code to receive the discount by contacting Karen Andrews at OLIS. Registrations at this rate are limited. Once they are gone, registrations may be available at the full rate of $395.
You may register by credit card or check by logging on to Eventbrite. Once there, click on “TICKETS,” then click on “Enter Promotional Code” in the upper right. The cost of the tickets for Rhode Island library personnel with a code is $195. A full breakfast and lunch both days is included with the cost of your registration. Seats are limited so please register early.
OLIS is offering a limited number of scholarships to librarians and library staff working in Rhode Island libraries. Scholarships are in the amount of $500, which will cover the cost of conference registration and the conference hotel; breakfast and lunch are included as part of the registration. Scholarship winners will be responsible for travel, incidental costs and meals not included in the registration fee.
Scholarship applications will be accepted through 4:00 PM on September 8 and recipients will be notified the week of September 11.
