On June 13, 2007, all LORI libraries’ addresses for LORI ILL, xxxill@lori.ri.gov, will be changed to a new domain name. The domain name is the part of email address that follows the “@”. Along with the email migration, the URL for FirstSearch will be different too. More information will follow as soon as it becomes available.
OLIS is making the change to facilitate an easier access to the LORI ILL account. As of today, many LORI libraries still have problems setting up a POP mail reader for LORI email. Reasons for the difficulties vary, but they are most often related to the nature of POP mail and the conflict caused by the intricate network protection of libraries and the mail server.
With the new email service, library will have the choice of accessing the new LORI ILL email through its existing POP mail reader or through the web mail interface provided by the new Internet Service Provider. Libraries are encouraged to take advantage of the new web mail interface because it requires no local set up. The web mail option can better facilitate the ILL activity when more than one staff are involved in the process.
Please contact Chaichin Chen for concerns and questions on the transition.
