Effective March 29, 2007, OLIS will no longer provide support to LORI email accounts for individual librarian. Each library's LORI ILL email account, xxxill@lori.ri.gov, will continue as is.
LORI was set up to be a prototype for Ocean State FreeNet. It was the first email address for many librarians throughout the state. Overtime, however, better and cheaper Internet services become readily available for everyone while the concern of Internet security and spam made running a seamless email server a challenge for us. Comparing to what's available on the market, we feel it is time that we leave the email services to professionals who can better serve your need. OLIS is not in the ISP business. We plan to focus our limited resources on something that can truly benefit the majority of Rhode Island libraries and their patron.
Check the OLIS reports to find out what Internet Service Providers (ISP) have been used by some Rhode Island libraries:
Contact Chaichin Chen at 222-5815 or Sheila Carlson at 222-5754 if you need more information. Please also let us know before March 15 if you need an extension beyond March 29.
