Rhode Island Libraries Win We the People Bookshelves

Eleven Rhode Island public and school libraries were awarded a set of books, posters, bookmarks, and other promotional materials from the National Endowment for the Humanities under the We the People Bookshelf program. The winners are:

  • Barrington Middle School Library Media Center
  • Chariho Middle School Library Media Center
  • Chariho Regional High School Library
  • Laurel Hill Avenue School (Providence)
  • M. Virginia Cunningham School Library (Pawtucket)
  • North Providence Union Free Library
  • Providence Public Library
  • South Kingstown Public Library
  • Urban Collaborative Accelerated Program (Providence)
  • Wickford Middle School Library
  • Willett Free Library

Each library will receive 15 classic books on the theme of "Becoming American" from the We the People Bookshelf, along with copies of three of the titles offered also in Spanish. As part of the award, libraries will hold programs or events to raise awareness of these classic books and engage young readers. Congratulations to all the winners!
