Public Libraries and the Internet 2006 Survey

Information Use Management and Policy Institute Announces the 2006 Survey

The Institute is conducting its biannial survey of public libraries and Internet connectivity. The survey was sent to randomly selected public libraries all over the country in February. The study is funded by the the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the American Library Association (ALA), and conducted by researchers from the Florida State University's Information Use Management and Policy Institute (http://www.ii.fsu.edu).

To read more about the study and access the survey, visit http://www.plinternetsurvey.org. Those answering the survey will need the state assigned Library ID code which was included in the letter sent to initiate the survey. ID numbers can also be looked up at the "complete the survey" page. Questions can be e-mailed to PL2006@ci.fsu.edu.

Answers given will provide public libraries, state library agencies, the Gates Foundation, ALA, policymakers, and others with extremely important data regarding public library Internet connectivity issues, what it takes to sustain public access Internet services in public libraries, and the impacts of such connectivity in the communities that local libraries serve.
