Iacono Scholar

Frank Iacono, who died on August 30, 2006, was a valued colleague and friend not only to his fellow OLIS staff members but also to library students the entire RI library community. See also In Memoriam.

The following is the announcement made by Gale Eaton, Director of the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies (GSLIS) regarding the establishment of the Iacono Scholar.

October 3, 2006

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

In memory of Frank Iacono, a GSLIS Alumnus of the Year who earned his MLIS at URI in 1974 and went on to help, encourage, and mentor generations of MLIS students who came after him, the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Library and Information Studies will name an Iacono Scholar in the spring of 2007. Because Frank reached out to students and colleagues in all areas of librarianship, this scholarship will not be earmarked for any particular specialization; eligibility will be determined by scholastic excellence, professional engagement, and need.

Donations to the GSLIS Scholarship Fund are tax-deductible, and may be mailed to:

Gale Eaton, Director
Graduate School of Library and Information Studies
University of Rhode Island
94 West Alumni Avenue
Kingston, RI 02881

Checks should be made out to the URI GSLIS Scholarship Fund, with a "Frank Iacono" memo in the bottom left.

Very truly yours,

Gale Eaton
