[August 31, 2006] The Office of Library and Information Services mourns the loss of our colleague and friend, Frank Iacono, who died unexpectedly on Wednesday. Well known in the Rhode Island library community as the librarian's librarian, Frank managed the OLIS Library, which serves librarians throughout the state along with state employees at the Department of Administration. Under his tenure, the library developed an extensive collection of professional materials for librarians. Frank also coordinated the Young Adult Round Table, meetings held throughout the state for young adult librarians, and the Reference Round Table. He was also a member of the Field Services Team, which serves Rhode Island's public libraries, and the Continuing Education Team.
Frank graduated from Providence College and earned his Master of Library Science at the University of Rhode Island. He worked for the State of Rhode Island for over thirty years as a librarian at the Department of State Library Services, now the Office of Library and Information Services. He has also worked at the Cranston Public Library. Frank was active in the library community, a long-time member of the Rhode Island Library Association and a former American Library Association Councilor; he has served on numerous committees and study groups.
Frank's presence and good humor will be greatly missed at OLIS, the Department of Administration and throughout the Rhode Island library community.
Calling hours are at the Mariani & Son Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins St., Providence from 4-8 pm on Friday, September 1. The funeral will be held at St. Agnes Church, 100 Chatham Street, Providence on Saturday, September 2 at 9 am.
