2005 Librarians for the 21st Century: The University of Rhode Island, Graduate School of Library and Information Studies in Kingston, RI has been awarded a grant of $504,775 by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Leadership Project, Project Prism, which recruited and trained seven librarians. Prism Plus will address grant priority one, educating the next generation of library professionals, by recruiting and educating twelve diverse students at the URI Graduate School of Library and Information Studies (GSLlS). Participants will have the option of completing the ALA-accredited master's program at URI as either full-time or part-time students. Prism Plus will prepare librarians to work with diverse populations and to provide culturally sensitive information literacy instruction in academic or public library settings. The project is a partnership between GSLIS and the University of Rhode Island Library. In addition to completing an academic program, participants will gain experience in delivering and evaluating reference services and in providing information literacy instruction by interning at the URI Library.
