LORI Library Technology Plans

Requirements

For E-Rate:

Public libraries applying for E-rate discounts for anything other than local, long-distance, or centrex phone service, land or cellular, must submit a Technology Plan to OLIS for approval. CLAN submits a technology plan for Internet Service on behalf of consortium members; this applies to only applications from individual libraries or systems.

Public Libraries applying for Centrex & PBX, VOIP, or any other phone service above/beyond/other than POTS, are required to have a Technology Plan written prior to the initial application (Form 470) and have the plan approved/certified by OLIS prior to submitting the Form 471. The E-rate area provides more information about requirements.

For LORI Standards:

Technology Plans are required as part of the standards for Library of Rhode Island Network members. However, libraries need only to submit the Online Technology Assessment. The Goals, Objectives, Strategies, and Evaluation sections may be incorporated in the library's long-range plan.

Guidelines for Technology Plans

Plans should include:

  1. Technology Assessment - an online form. The results of the Assessment are tabulated and provide valuable information for future planning.
  2. Written Technology Plan which includes a Vision Statement, and a section of Goals, Objectives, and Activities. Technology Plans should follow specific Criteria and Guidelines.
  3. Technology Plans may be part of the library's long-range plan
