AskRI News and Updates: October 15, 2008

Highlights: EBSCO access; World Book training; Linking information;
Previous AskRI News: Sept. 25 | Oct. 3

EBSCO

Access to EBSCO statewide databases through AskRI is now available via zip code or library bar code authentication from the same search box. This is an approvement from the service referenced on October 3. Other linking issues appear to be mostly resolved.

Access via zip code provides access to the core EBSCO databases; access by library bar code will allow patrons to access the databases their library subscribes to (via OSL, HELIN, etc.) and statewide databases. OSL, HELIN, hospital libraries, etc. subscribe to different collections of EBSCO resources available only through their institution, not statewide. If you are not seeing all the databases to which you subscribe along with the AskRI databases, please contact your EBSCO representative.

Tutor.com / HomeworkHelpRI

A new user-friendly url is available to connect with HomeworkHelpRI: http://www.tutor.com/homeworkhelpRI

Customized posters are now available for download.

Statistics are now available on the OLIS website and will be posted here regularly.

Geographic authentication will hopefully be in place in early November. (No more bar codes to enter!)

World Book: Database Training

Two trainings on World Book resources will take place on October 29.

AskRI Website: Linking Information

The Librarians' Resource Center now has a link to logos and linking information. This page contains the most current information on where and how to link to statewide databases.

This page also provides links to publicity materials and vendor websites (with additional PR and marketing information). This resource is being updated on a regular basis as we develope collateral for marketing statewide databases..

Thank you for your patience as we continue to work out the final details for these resources. AskRI will continue to evolve and change to provide users with barrier-free access to statewide resources. We ask you to continue to check this website and the Librarians' Resource Center on AskRI for current information.

If you have questions or comments about the electronic resources available at AskRI.org, please contact Karen Mellor at OLIS or Kathyellen Bullard at the Providence Public Library.
