Rogers Free Library
The current library was built in 1877 in memory of Richard Rogers. Originally the building had 2 full stories: 2 banks occupied the first floor while the library was on the second floor. A fire in 1957 gutted the building, but the Rogers Free Library rose from the ashes

The Makowsky Building stands to the north (right) of the library. Originally the building was to be rehabilitated, but the cost was prohibitive. With the approval of the RI Historic Preservation Commission and the local Historic Commission, the building was razed.

The garden and trees behind the library will be preserved. The Furniture Company building can be seen through the trees.

The municipal parking lot behind the building will be dedicated parking for library patrons. A new entrance into the connector (to be located to the right of this picture) will enable visitors to enter the library from the Thames Street parking lot, granting easy access to the children's library.
