| Existing library and
addition The exterior is nearly complete in this view looking north up Hope Street. View earlier pictures of the addition. |
Library addition The shape of the library echoes the existing building, while the exterior brick is reminiscent of the furniture building that was demolished to make way for the library. |

| Connector Inside the connection between the two buildings (locally known as the hyphen), the exterior brownstone walls will be visible. Circ desk staff in the addition will be able to see into the old library on the first floor, which will house videos, large print and magazines. See the connector as it nears completion. |
Circulation area The circulation desk will be housed under and echo the curve of the dropped ceiling (outlined with metal framing, top). The lowered ceiling will enhance acoustics at the circ desk. This view looks towards the Thames St. side of the library, with the circ workroom visible on the right. See the circ area sheetrocked. |

| Adult stack area Beyond the circ desk facing the Thames St. side of the library, the adult stack area will include seating around the periphery to take advantage of the windows that face the harborside. |
Adult non-fiction stack
area The second floor will house reference and adult non-fiction. As on the main floor, plenty of windows will allow natural light into work areas. Bristol Harbor will be visible from windows in the far-left (southwest) corner. |

Technical services The former children's room (lower level of the old library) will house technical services, a staff area and space for the Friends and a Literacy tutoring area. Improvements made to the foundation during renovation will stop the occasional flooding that plagued the former children's room. |

| Lobby stairs From the ground (Harborside) level, stairs lead down into the new children's library and the meeting room. A ramp provides access to users with disabilities. Floor levels between the two buildings do not match on the lower level because of new ceiling height requirements, making it necessary for the architect to develop creative solutions for linking the two buildings. |
Children's activity room Metal framing outlines the activity room in the children's library. The room is on the left after entering the children's room on the ground level. |
