The Office of Library and Information Services is currently developing a comprehensive strategic plan for the years 2018-2022. This plan will guide the work of OLIS over the next five years and inform the development of the 2018-2022 Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Five-Year State Plan.
The LSTA Five-Year State Plan encompasses all activities and services at OLIS that are supported in part or in whole by federal funds. It does not include OLIS programs that do not meet the purposes and priorities of LSTA and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Grants to States Program. As such, activities such as State Aid to Libraries and Construction Reimbursement are not included in the Five-Year State Plan.
The Library Board of Rhode Island approved the final draft version of the OLIS Five-Year State Plan for the expenditure of LSTA funds on June 12, 2017; the plan has been submitted to the Institute of Museum and Library Services for acceptance. Following acceptance by the IMLS, the final version will be posted on the OLIS website and will go into effect on October 1, 2017.
The framework of the OLIS comprehensive strategic plan is the basis for the LSTA Five-Year State Plan and includes all OLIS activities. The comprehensive strategic plan will be finalized in the Summer of 2017.
The Five-Year State Plan required by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) is due to the IMLS by June 30, 2017. A draft of the plan was presented at the meeting of the Library Board of Rhode Island on May 15, 2017; the Board will vote on the plan at its meeting on June 12. All Board meetings are open to the public.
