[March 7, 2016] The Office of Library and Information Services is pleased to announce that Lauren Plews will be joining our team and filling the role of State Data Coordinator. Prior to joining OLIS, Lauren served as a research librarian for a private research firm where she conducted in-depth research for senior legal and engineering staff including translating raw government data into client tailored reports. She has also served as an information specialist at CATIE, a national HIV and Hepatitis C non-profit in Canada, where she supported staff research, facilitated the redesign of various in-house databases, and led the team in charge of developing a new information architecture.
Lauren has also worked as a reference librarian in public libraries in Rhode Island (North Smithfield Public Library) as well as in Ontario, Canada (St. Catharines Public Library). In addition to her work in libraries, Lauren has also worked as a medical writer at the CanChild Center for Childhood Disability Research in Ontario and as a wiki developer at McMaster University’s School of Rehabilitation Science, also in Ontario. In all of these arenas she has gathered and translated data for her patrons, clients and colleagues in order to help them use data in meaningful ways.
Lauren has taught classes in Special Libraries and the Organization of Information at the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Library and Information Studies, where she is an adjunct faculty member. She holds a Master of Science in Information from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario.
