[September 5, 2017] The Office of Library and Information Services is pleased to announce that Jason M. Bloom will be joining our team and filling the role of Library Program Manager. Prior to joining OLIS, Jason served as Director for the Middleborough Public Library in Middleborough, Massachusetts. His previous experience also includes working as the Assistant Director/Head of Technology & User Experience for the award-winning Ames Free Library in Easton, MA, where he helped launch the Queset House, a stand-alone makerspace, learning lab, program hub, and frequent home to authors-in-residence. He has also worked in adult services and young adult services at the Norwell Public Library and in the interlibrary loan department at Providence College’s Phillips Library.
Jason holds a Master of Library and Information Science and an Information Literacy Instruction Certificate from the University of Rhode Island, and bachelor’s degrees in Secondary Education/English and Technical Theatre from Rhode Island College. Jason’s path prior to Librarianship has seen him in the classroom as an educator at schools including Roger Williams Middle School, St. Andrew’s School and Kirwan State High School in North Queensland, Australia, teaching humanities electives, creative writing, technology and technical theatre skills to middle and high school students. He has also been a stage manager for theaters across New England, and has worked at Providence Black Repertory Company, Barrington Stage Company, Rhode Island College, Trinity Repertory Company and Kaleidoscope Theatre.
At OLIS, Jason will be managing the area of local library development and direct services to libraries, while working with Library Program Manager Donna DiMichele to support various OLIS initiatives, especially in the areas of technology and social media.
